WEST OXFORD DESIGN SCHEME
Permeability
Progression of Permeability
Where the original design of the block promoted permeability to some degree what is evident is that there is a distinct lack of flow in comparison to the revised masterplan.
Highlighted in red one can see the vehicle routes around the block. In the original masterplan the road reaches a dead end whereas on the revised masterplan the road bears round to the west.
Highlighted in yellow one can see the cycle and pedestrianised areas of the block. This level of pedestrianised zones has remained much the same however due to the reorientation of the Western block pedestrians have been given a further 18.5m on South Street.
Greater pedestrianised areas also promotes the vision of more walking in the area.
