This area is perhaps one of the most important locations within the block in relation to public space. This is one of the areas that benefit most from evening light as there is limited shadowing to the south facing facade. Restaurants should therefore be located on the bottom floors this block and aim to spill out onto the street providing active frontage. This public space leads to a public park which can be accessed down a series of steps.

The steps are a key linkage from the public area to the green spaces in front. While it is important to maintain the aesthetic of the grand steps rising up to the commercial area above it is also vital that the steps incorporate access to wheel chairs and those who can’t mediate the steps. The feel of the grand steps can be maintained through integrating a ramp into part of the steps design
